Stouffville blows out Newmarket, 4-1
The Newmarket Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the Stouffville Spirit, which beat Hurricanes, 4-1.
With the win, Stouffville evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.
The Spirit were led by goalie Jonathan Hall, who finished with 38 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Hall will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.32.
Stouffville was sparked by Christian Finch, who grabbed one goal. Finch scored 1:52 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Stouffville. Drake Caggiula assisted on the tally.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:25 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
Newmarket was unable to stop the Spirit from sending pucks towards the net, and Stouffville eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.
Stouffville also got points from Paul Geiger, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chris Porter also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Josh Chapman, who had one.
The Hurricanes' offense rang up 39 shots on the Spirit's net.
Newmarket was led by Chris Chiste, who scored the team's only goal. Chiste scored 13:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Tyson LeBlanc picked up the assist.
Stouffville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Spirit ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Thomas Tsicos was ejected from the game. Jason Pucciarelli rejected 27 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Newmarket totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For the Hurricanes, Lester Brown was ejected from the game.
