Stouffville rips Whitby, 5-1
The Whitby Fury had trouble finding ways to stop the Stouffville Spirit, which beat Fury, 5-1.
The win gave Stouffville a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
The Spirit excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.
Stouffville was led by Christian Powers, who tallied two goals and two assists. Powers scored the first of his two goals at 6:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stouffville. Alex Botten picked up the assist. Powers' next tally made the score 3-0 Stouffville with 17:58 left in the second period. Matthew Heffernan provided the assist. Stouffville additionally got points from Botten, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Drake Caggiula, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dylan Savory also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Robert Acton, Leonard Dziemianko, and Robert Powers, who each chipped in one.
The Spirit's Jonathan Hall stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Stouffville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Tyler Feaver made 22 saves for Whitby on 27 shots. The Fury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
